‘College ki salgirah’

With the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, which were a swashbuckling saga, the conclusion of the 75th year of our college came to an end. A lot of anxiety had built up in the run up to the event. Entry and dinner passes were issued to the students the day before as well as parking passes for the inauguration of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations at Vigyan Bhavan. The presence of the PM had put a heavy premium on the security. The day began with all the luminaries and the illustrious alumni of the college, coupled with the hon’ble PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee gracing the inauguration ceremony. Arun Jaitley was as eloquent and articulate as ever.  The PM gave a captivating speech accentuating the importance of education in the present times. Not to be left behind, our own “Bose Behari” received thunderous applause from the crowd.

The meal that ensued was really big surprise as the hostellers got a lesson in gluttony from the dayschees. Thereafter the congregation proceeded to the old college premises in Darya Ganj. The torchlight procession from the old college premises and the festivities that the North Campus witnessed were really panoramic. The procession was characterized by elated students and exulted teachers showing that SRCC could be a new hunting ground for Bollywood if their ‘latkas’ and ‘jhatkas’ were anything to go by.

The college was electrically beautified and the atmosphere was charged. The fireworks display put the brightest stars in the sky to shame. Towards the culmination we had a scintillating performance by ‘Vipin Aneja’ one of the lesser-known pop artists (ed- now we know why) who had the college dancing to his tunes. This was followed by dinner in the college lawns which gave the hostellers a welcome break from the Mess(y) food. To sum it up – the festivities were a befitting tribute to the astronomical heights our college has achieved.
